We have nothing against the Norman Rockwell portrayal of family — those old-timey gatherings of people with the same last name drinking lemonade on porch swings — it’s just that there’s something else happening these days in the way humans team up to go through life. The Urban Family for which this brewery is named did come together on a porch, but it was around strong beers and pale ales consumed on our rental house’s ratty sofa, which we had dragged outside to take advantage of spring Sundays in DC.
This creativity and flexibility of how to live and define a life characterizes what we do at Urban Family Brewing: If someone you met through a Craigslist roommate ad can become your brother then you can definitely put lavender in a witbier.
